This awe-inspiring and memorable exhibit will include fifty significant works by Maynard Dixon, including original oils, drawings, watercolors, poems, and Dixon’s easel.

The exhibition will feature Dixon’s social-realist paintings, including the study for “Shapes of Fear,” one of Dixon’s most important works; the oil resides in the Smithsonian’s permanent collection.

John Nieto: Lifetime Achievement Award

Thursday September 12th

John NietoJohn Nieto was one of America’s most dynamic contemporary artists, concentrating on themes that transcend mere representation. He utilized intense primary colors, applied in bold strokes to give dimension and character to the canvas. In his etchings and drawings, Nieto employed classic linear techniques to create images of great detail and depth. In all of Nieto’s art, sensitivity and respect for his subject were projected.

He concentrated on capturing in his work his unique vision of the subjects he painted on canvases with vibrant, electric hues. The bold imagery of Nieto’s dynamic style is the essence of his art. The artist always tried to evoke a reaction or response from the viewer. His art was a synthesis of his philosophy and his technical versatility, a powerful expression of pride and vitality.

Nieto was and still is unique among contemporary American artists. His personal philosophies were a vital element of his consummate style. Nieto stated, “I employ a subject matter that is familiar and express it the way I see it”. This is accomplished via his use of vibrant color and strong assertive line. The combination of his sensitivity with his technical versatility became the vehicle that allowed him to transcend the ordinary.

After participating in an exhibit at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. John met with President Reagan in the Oval Office of the White House and presented him with the painting “Delegate to the White House”. The painting hung in Washington for the duration of the President’s term in office and now has been included in the presidential library.

Nieto’s distinctive style, combination of subject matter, bold comparisons and searing color, is instantly recognizable and collectors throughout the United States and abroad value and prize his work. He has produced bronze sculptures, etchings, lithographs and silk- screen prints, in addition to drawings in pastel crayons and charcoal.

Each summer he has had an annual exhibition in Santa Fe, NM at Ventana Fine Art and Altamira Fine Art in Jackson Hole, WY.

Sadly, John Nieto passed away on Feb. 9, 2019., at age 69.

Nieto’s work has been featured in scores in solo shows in art galleries nationwide, and won many arts awards in art competitions. He is in the permanent collections of many of the nation’s leading art museums, such as:

Jeremy Kidd: Photographer of The Year

Friday September 13th, 2-3pm

Jeremy KiddPresented by Imago Galleries. Photographer Jeremy Kidd has a remarkable, eye-catching, and memorable method for exploring transcendental urban landscapes. According to Kidd, it seems unrealistic to expect a single photographic shot, a single moment in time, to convey the human experience of seeing. He believes we visually explore our environment in the third and fourth dimensions as we build our personal visual journey.

His unique photographic technique is explained – compositing up to 100 long exposures into a single piece, is a more cohesive way of expressing the filmic. It allows Kidd to explore movement and condensed time and lends itself to his concerns with exemplifying the transcendental and the essence of place, in the urban/landscape.

Though he is not directly referencing (Hudson River School Painters), Kidd draws parallels with his methods and his photos have the often-transcendental qualities that are encountered in their landscapes. However, he does aim to extol something of this Hudson River School within the urban context – An “urbanized Idealism”.

Kidd presents a condensed vision of multiple photographs as a metaphor for repeated perceptual glances. He engages the viewer by conveying an animated experience of the dynamic urban infrastructure.

Mr. Kidd is currently represented by Imago Galleries.

Bart Walter: Sculptor of The Year

Saturday Sep 14, 6:30-7pm
In the Theater

A full-time sculptor for three decades, Bart Walter is primarily known for his unique and dynamic approach to surface. His work can be found in notable public and private collections worldwide- in museums, galleries, or zoos, as well as many unique commission works in bronze sculpture for collectors and institutions nationwide.

Bart Walter travels extensively to pursue honest interpretations of his subjects, from lions and chimpanzees to more local North American wildlife. Sculpting and drawing directly from life allows him to infuse vitality and spontaneity into his work. Bart has transcended their reliance on the taxidermist table and the zoo by sculpting directly from the natural world.

Working from his personal drawings, clay and wax field studies, Bart embraces a figurative, representational style that eschews the minute in favor of the whole–the spirit of the animal. Bart’s renderings are derived from a personal commitment to the integrity of each subject. When casting in bronze, Bart’s hands-on approach results in sculptures that are faithful to the original work. With this holistic view of inspiration, creation and casting, Bart Walter has won the respect and admiration of fine art curators, collectors and the general public.

Two prominent and outstanding examples of his work are highly visible in Jackson Hole, helping to define the artistic flavor and cultural ethos and landmarks of the city. One is recently unveiled and awe-inspiring sculpture, , “Battle of Wills”, at the Jackson Hole Airport, the other, the monumental “Wapti Trail “ outside and in front of the National Musuem of Wildlife Art.
